EVAL400W-ADP / ATX is a 400 W, wide input power range, power factor correction solution, suitable for high-power adapters and ATX power supplies, with extremely low power consumption during no / light load operation, without the need for a dedicated backup power supply. The application architecture is based on two phases: a front-end PFC pre-regulator based on a CCM (continuous conduction mode) boost PFC controller, using the L4984D, and a downstream LLC resonant half-bridge converter designed around the L6699 device, providing a regulated 12 V output Voltage dedicated to power ATX or similar applications that meet the most stringent efficiency and standby regulations.
The main focus of the board is light load efficiency, which is achieved through the burst mode function of the PFC and LLC controllers and the adaptive dead time of the L6699 device. It is modulated by the internal logic based on the half-bridge node conversion time, allowing the transformer magnetization inductance to be maximized To reduce the primary current during light load operation. An active high-voltage startup circuit based on a depleted MOSFET provides a very fast startup time and reduces the remaining power consumption during normal operation to negligible levels. Very high efficiency during normal load operation and very small heat sinks used on the secondary side are obtained by using synchronous rectification based on SRK2000A equipment.
