Buck converter uses 2 x 2-mm QFN pkg

The MP2130 3.5-A, 6-V, synchronous, switch-mode, step-down converter is available in a 2 × 2-mm QFN package. It converts power from a 2.7 to 6-Vdc input range to a 0.6 to 5.5-Vdc output range, with a load current of up to 3.5 A. The converter targets SSDs and HDDs storage systems, networking cards, portable devices, battery-operated devices, and PoL power supplies.

The step-down converter features an adaptive constant on-time (COT) control method that eliminates complicated loop compensation and simplifies designs. The proprietary COT control targets transient response performance, reduces the need for bulk capacitance, and increases flexibility in output-capacitor selection. The COT control method offers a seamless transition from a full-load to light-load efficiency. The device provides 96% peak efficiency and 85% light-load efficiency at 5–V input and 3.3–V output. Protection features include cycle-by-cycle current limit, hiccup-mode short circuit, and thermal shutdown. ($2.65 ea/1,000 — available now.)

Monolithic Power Systems (MPS) is a high-performance analog semiconductor company headquartered in San Jose, California. MPS has three core strengths; deep system level and application knowledge, strong analog design expertise and innovative proprietary process technology. These combined advantages enable MPS delivery, providing highly integrated, cost-effective solutions for highly integrated monolithic products.
